Colorado Springs Fire Department speaks out nationally on fire mitigation

The Colorado Springs Fire Department will be heard across the nation as they shared tips in an effort to help prevent fire damage.

CSFD has been one of the national leaders in wildfire mitigation, and Thursday morning, crew members joined with USAA to provide satellite interviews for news stations across the United States.

“Stacking the deck in our favor is going to be the biggest thing you can do to help you and us protect the community from wildfires,” said Fire Marshall Brett Lacey.

They spoke with 23 news and radio stations across the nation about fire mitigation and what’s important when saving your home from a wildfire. It happened at the same time fires ravaged areas in Colorado, California, and Oregon.

“It’s not just a local Colorado Springs issue is it? We try to get the message across a much broader audience to hopefully get people thinking about fire mitigation and what they can do and how they can be prepared because like I said, you never know when this can happen,” said Jim Hannon with USAA.

The interviews began at 7 a.m. Thursday and lasted well into the afternoon.
