Two Hanover firefighters and one driver hospitalized after driving into sinkhole

Two firefighters and one driver were transported to the hospital Tuesday morning.

Colorado State Patrol says the flooded roads caused two vehicles to washout on Old Pueblo Road near Birdsall Road. One of the drivers called 911 and the Hanover Fire Department responded. While on the way to help, the fire truck went into the washout crashing into the van that was stuck.

Troopers were then called and Flight For Life later showed up on the scene.

The crash ejected the firefighters from the truck. The driver and firefighters were transported to the hospital and are in serious condition.

The driver of the other van that was stuck in the washout left the scene. CSP has yet to contact the driver.

The washout was due to Monday night’s stormy weather. For more on the Monday’s weather story click here.
