Water, debris closed Highway 24 leaving drivers stuck on the road

Water and debris closed Highway 24 in both directions Monday evening for several hours between Woodland Park and Cave of the Winds.

Colorado Department of Transportation had several dozers, plows, and dump trucks pushing debris out of the way, and hauling it off the road.

The closure left several drivers stranded on the highway, some shocked it happened so quickly.

“It was crazy, you know? You don’t expect something like this just from that, but you know seeing everything roll down the hill- wow,” Mark Drees said.

CDOT reopened the eastbound lanes of Highway 24 to alternating traffic around 8 o’clock Monday night.
