Active weather pattern – 07/22/18

Tonight: Active weather is expected this evening. Severe thunderstorms are expected to lose strength as the sun sets later tonight. Overnight, storms will be tracking into the southeastern plains. We can’t rule out some strikes of lightning overnight along with pockets of heavy rain; however, large hail and damaging gusts aren’t likely. Overnight lows drop to the 50s and 60s under mostly cloudy skies. We’ve also been dealing with smoke in the atmosphere due to regional wildfires, but some rain will help to scour out that haze.

Tomorrow: Highs will be cooler with temperatures ranging in the 70s and 80s. Mostly cloudy skies are anticipated. A few morning showers and storms are possible, but there’s a much better likelihood in the afternoon and evening. There could be one or two strong-to-severe storms with strong winds and large hail, but for the most part – we’ll just be tracking areas of downpours and the risk for flash flooding over local burn scars.

Extended: A monsoonal pattern will continue to develop across southern Colorado throughout the remainder of your seven-day forecast. Temperatures will generally be cooler compared to what we’ve experienced recently. On a daily basis, we’ll have to vigilant – watching recent burn scars for any problems with rapidly-developing flooding situations.
