Colorado Springs police catch ceramic bowl bandit, accomplice

Colorado Springs police say they’ve arrested two people after a hotel robbery back in February when the hotel clerk was hit in the head with a ceramic bowl.

It happened on Feb. 16 at the Days Inn at 8350 Razorback Road — police say two men walked into the lobby and one of them assaulted the clerk with the bowl. The other then jumped over the counter, demanded the keys to the cash drawer, and stole an unknown amount of cash.

Colorado Springs police said Friday that 19-year-old Joseph Cauley and a 16-year-old juvenile were suspected of the robbery. Cauley was taken into custody Thursday, and the juvenile was already in custody for two other bank robberies that happened on March 23.

It’s not clear if Cauley was the man who struck the clerk or if he’s the one who jumped over the counter to get the money.

Police didn’t release further details on what criminal charges the two are facing.

Previous Story (March 5)

Colorado Springs police say they’re looking for two people who robbed a north Colorado Springs hotel in mid-February, and one of the men assaulted a victim by shattering a ceramic bowl on their head.

CSPD released a picture of one of the suspects Monday and is asking for help identifying him. Police say he was one of two people who robbed a Days Inn at 8350 Razorback Road on Feb. 16.

Police say the pictured suspect also picked up a large ceramic bowl from the counter and hit a victim on the side of the head, causing a significant injury. Police wouldn’t tell us if the victim was a hotel employee or a bystander.

We asked CSPD for information on what was taken during the robbery, but the department won’t provide any other information.

If you have any information about the suspects, call police at 719-444-7000 or 719-634-7867.
