Man injures 7 Eleven clerk and Colorado Springs police officer during robbery

A man injured a 7 Eleven clerk while stealing an undisclosed amount of money from the store.

Colorado Springs police arrested 28-year-old Terry Fortson late Wednesday night after a brief chase. By the time officers arrived to the 7 Eleven in the 300 block of E. Platte Ave. they saw Fortson leaving in his car.

Officers attempted to stop him, but Fortson circled the store. He then became stuck in an adjacent drive-through and intentionally struck a police car in an effort to get away. Fortson then got out of his car and attempted to run away. Police pepper sprayed and tazed him, both of which had minimal impact. He resisted and fought with multiple officers, injuring an officer in the process.

While fighting with police Fortson sustained injuries and was later taken into custody.

Fortson’s injuries are being evaluated and are not believed to be serious. Police say the store clerk also sustained injuries that are not believed to be serious.

The money Fortson stole was recovered and returned to 7 Eleven.

He is charged with robbery, kidnapping during the commission of the robbery, eluding, criminal mischief, second-degree assault on a peace officer, resisting arrest and obstruction.
