Pueblo County will revert back to Stage 1 Fire Restrictions

Pueblo County Sheriff Kirk Taylor announced Wednesday that Pueblo County will revert back to Stage 1 Fire Restrictions.

Pueblo County has been on Stage 2 restrictions since June 25.

Sheriff Taylor said the decision was made due to improvements in the fire restriction guidelines. Taylor says he has been closely monitoring conditions and reviewing fire activity in the area.

“I thank the citizens for adhering to all the restrictions up to this point and ask that they continue to do so, as there still exists fire danger in Pueblo County,” said Taylor. “But, due to recent moisture and expected precipitation this weekend, the fire danger, while still high, has improved allowing us to ease the fire restrictions back to Stage 1.”

Stage 1 restrictions prohibit:

Open burning, except fires and campfires within constructed fire grates inside developed camp and picnic grounds, charcoal grills and wood burning stoves at private residences. These areas must be cleared of all flammable materials. (Exemptions allowed for agricultural burning on a per case basis may be granted by appropriate fire jurisdiction). The sale or use of fireworks without a permit. Outdoor smoking except inside a vehicle or stopped in an area at least three feet in diameter that is barren of all flammable materials.

Violators of the fire restrictions can be subject to fines and mandatory court appearances. For more information on current fire restrictions and bans click here.
