Man visits all 50 states to mow lawns for the elderly, disabled

Mowing the lawn might be a typical household chore, but it can prove to be a monumental task for elderly and disabled people; but Rodney Smith Jr. of Huntsville, Alabama, just finished a trip to help out families in all 50 states.

Smith’s goal was 50 lawns in 50 states — he started on May 17 in Milwaukee and finished this week in Hawaii. Along the way, he ended up mowing quite a few more than 50 lawns for some very appreciative families.

Smith stopped through Denver in late June, when he mowed the lawn for 93-year-old Ms. Hammonds.

For my second lawn in Denver,CO I had the pleasure of mowing Ms.Hammonds lawn for her . She’s 93 years young and full of joy . It was great meeting her . Making a difference one lawn at a time . pic.twitter.com/LwS4dI8O0r

He also documented the whole journey on his Twitter page, sharing pictures with the people whose lawns he mowed.

Smith says he’s also encouraging young people to take up the same mission by mowing 50 yards for those in need in their cities. He said more than 200 kids had already signed up on his website.

Next up, Smith says he’ll tackle the globe for 2019. He plans on traveling to all seven continents to mow lawns, and we’re VERY curious how he’s going to handle Antarctica’s many lush fields of green grass.
