Boil water notice issued for Falcon Highlands residents

A boil water notice was issued Monday night for residents served by the Falcon Highlands Metro District.

The district says a booster station failure resulted in significant pressure loss in their drinking water system.

“FHMD experienced a loss of pressure due to a malfunction of an electrical component in its booster station,” according to release sent out by the district.

Officials warn a loss of system pressure can introduce disease-causing organisms into the water system. These organisms include: bacteria, viruses, and parasites which can cause short-term health effects.

“It’s frightening,” said Karen Douglas, who lives in the area. “Hopefully, it doesn’t continue on for very long.”

Residents are advised to not drink water without boiling it first.

Let it boil for three minutes and then let it cool. Boiled or bottled water should be used for drinking, making ice, brushing teeth, washing dishes, and food preparation until further notice.

“You can still smell the bleach,” said John Elliott, who lives in the affected area. “Water… is something you use everyday that you can take for granted.”

The notice is expected to be in place until July 19.

Residents with questions can call Josh Miller at 719-284-7226.
