Coronado golfer will play in teen world championship

Andrew Merz is rising golf phenom. The Coronado sophomore has won more tournaments than he can count, “I’ve won quite a bit of them,” says Merz. But the scorecard doesn’t dominate his state of mind, “I’m out there to have fun, I mean if I do good that’s great – but a lot of times you can recover from a bad shot,” says Merz. Remember that comment. Andrew learned the game from his dad, Dave, “It’s really fun to play with my dad. When we first started playing I mean he was beating me of course because I was a little young but then I started getting close and I’m like I wonder if I could beat him,” says Merz. A few years and hundreds of round later, “Now I beat him every time though, he doesn’t have a chance,” says Merz.

Back to Andrew’s general golf demeanor, he subscribes to this Tiger Woods’ philosophy,

“Take 10 steps to be as mad as you want at the shot but from there it’s the next shot just think about the next shot,” says Merz.
