Increasing storms with a flash flooding risk – 7/15/18

Today: Be prepared for an active weather day in southern Colorado! For Colorado Springs, Teller County and the Sangres, we have a Weather Alert in effect along with Flash Flood Watches. Those watches continue into tonight for the Pikes Peak region and last until tomorrow afternoon for the Sangres. During this time frame, we have the risk for fast-developing flooding situations with runoff and heavy rain. The recent burn scars from this summer and recent years will be the most vulnerable to debris flows and flash flooding (including the Junkins, Hayden Pass, High Chateau and Spring burn scars). However, urban areas in the Pikes Peak region are also susceptible to flash flooding. Temperatures will be cooler today with highs in the 80s and 90s. Mostly cloudy skies are expected.

Tonight: Overnight storms are still possible! Even still, models aren’t entirely aligning so there’s some uncertainty regarding what to expect. The risk for flash flooding doesn’t stop – bottom line. Stay with your StormTracker 13 weather team – we’ll be tracking the latest. Overnight lows cool to the 50s and 60s under mostly cloudy skies.

Extended: Tomorrow, flash flooding concerns continue. Temperatures will be even cooler on Monday thanks to tonight’s cold front. We only have a small chance for scattered storms on Tuesday. Wednesday and Thursday, conditions should dry out before we add our following chances for thunderstorms to the forecast for Friday and Saturday. Temperatures stay relatively stagnant.
