School bus flips in Weld County, multiple students injured

A school bus crash northeast of Denver sent 19 high schools students to the hospital Thursday.

The crash happened on Weld County Road 49, near Hudson, according to the Weld County Sheriff’s Office. Troopers told our partners at Denver7 that the bus collided with a truck and caused it to flip. An aerial video showed the bus on its side.

According to KDVR, 36-year-old William Carroll, of Littleton, was the driver of the flatbed truck.

After further investigation, troopers say Carroll fell asleep at the wheel at the time of the crash.

An official with Greeley-Evans School District 6 said there were 35 people on the bus heading back from Elitch Gardens in Denver. Twenty-nine occupants were high school students, along with four adult chaperones, a small child, and the driver.

Nineteen students were taken to the hospital, according to Denver7. Their conditions weren’t known. The bus driver was the most significantly injured.

The Colorado State Patrol later tweeted that none of the injuries appear to be life-threatening.
