El Paso County steps up efforts against illegal marijuana in 2nd quarter of 2018

The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office arrested more people and seized more illegally grown marijuana in the past three months than in the first quarter of 2018.

New numbers were released Friday showing the sheriff’s office’s results from April 1 to June 30.

In that time period, 31 search warrants were served and 13 Knock and Talk interviews were conducted. Deputies seized 3,029 marijuana plants, 981 pounds of processed marijuana, and $37,326 in cash. Officials say the processed marijuana and plants were worth more than $6.4 million in street value.

The Sheriff’s Office also released a map showing where the searches were executed.

Compared to the first three months of the year, deputies found significantly more processed marijuana. While nearly 1,000 pounds of marijuana was seized in recent months, only 258 pounds of processed marijuana was seized from Jan. 1 to March 31.

The number of marijuana plants seized also went up from 2,425 to 3,029, and deputies arrested more people compared to the 16 arrested in the first quarter of the year.
