Flash flooding possible today – 07/05/18

Today: Flash flooding is possible with heavy rain this afternoon! Storms that develop today have the possibility of being slow-moving, producing downpours. The fresh burn scars from the lst week (from the Spring and High Chateau fires) could have flash flooding concerns. The burn scars from 2016 (Junkins burn scar near Westfliffe and the Hayden Pass burn scar west of Cotopaxi in the Sangres) also have the risk of fast-developing floods. Flash Flood Watches go into effect for these areas at noon and continue until late tonight. Remember – never drive into flooded waters! A few storms could be severe, capable of producing large hail and damaging gusts; however, storms will likely stay beneath this “severe” threshold. Highs will be noticeably cooler, only reaching the 80s.

Tonight: Storms will be tracking off to the east after midnight. By early tomorrow morning, most of the showers will have dried out and died down. Lows dip to the 50s and 60s under mostly cloudy skies.

Extended: A few storms are possible Friday, but they’re not expected to be as strong or high-impacting like todays’. This upcoming weekend, mountain storms are a possibility, but the lower elevations primarily stay dry. Highs will be above-average throughout the remainder of your seven day forecast. Only a few showers and storms are expected into the middle of next week.
