Fire danger and storms – 07/04/18

Today: Across the area today, we’ll still be dealing with some elevated fire danger. However, Red Flag Warnings aren’t extremely likely. Avoid any activities that might start a fire! Don’t do campfires in most areas, don’t throw cigarette butts and don’t use a charcoal grill! Remember, fireworks aren’t allowed in most spots today. Later this afternoon and evening, it’s possible that relative humidity levels increase in Teller County and areas out east (that’s good news for the High Chateau fire). We also have chances for some breezes this afternoon and a few strong-to-severe storms. The areas that have the best likelihood of this are the folks along, north and east of the Palmer Divide. Large hail and damaging gusts are the primary threats. There could be a few pockets of heavy rain.

Tonight: Mostly cloudy skies are expected overnight. Storms come to an end. Overnight lows drop to the 50s and 60s.

Extended: More widespread and strong storms are possible Thursday. Tomorrow, there could be areas of heavy rain! This could cause problems over the fresh burn scars. Southern Colorado needs to stay on alert tomorrow. Thankfully, relative humidity levels will increase and this will help to drop the fire danger. Friday offers a small chance for spotty storms. The weekend appears to be drier.
