Colorado towns cancel 4th of July fireworks displays due to dry conditions
Because of extreme fire conditions in the area, Manitou Springs, Woodland Park, and many other towns announced the cancellations of their annual 4th of July fireworks shows.
The following places in southern Colorado have canceled their displays:
Manitou Springs Woodland Park Trinidad Salida Winter Park Frisco Pueblo West Florence La Junta Craig
Manitou Springs and Teller County continue to be under a strict fire ban, which includes open burning and open smoking. No fireworks can be ignited, either.
David Hunting with the Manitou Springs Volunteer Fire Department lamented having to cancel the decades-long tradition but cited liability concerns for nixing the display.
Woodland Park followed suit with an announcement later Wednesday saying no fireworks would be ignited during the city’s celebrations on July 4 and 5.
A fireworks display is still scheduled to take place in Colorado Springs. It’ll follow part of the Summer Symphony series at Memorial Park on July 4.
The Pueblo Riverwalk will also continue to have its July 4 celebration.
