Mostly sunny with quiet weather – 07/02/18

Today: Across southern Colorado, fire danger remains elevated. However, we won’t have gusts as strong as what we saw last week throughout the entire day for all areas. Even still, there could be some breezes. When you combine a little bit of wind with low relative humidity levels and dry fuels, we have the risk of starting wildfires. Avoid outdoor burning! Later today, we’re tracking mostly sunny skies with primarily dry weather. Highs will reach the 90s and low 100s for the lower elevations with the 70s and 80s for the local mountains. The far eastern plains could see some isolated strong-to-severe storms popping up this afternoon. Large hail to 1″ in diameter and damaging gusts will be the biggest threats.

Tonight: Mostly clear to partly cloudy skies are expected overnight. Lows drop to the 50s and 60s. Fire danger lowers as the sun goes down and relative humidity levels increase. However, the risk for starting fires remains somewhat elevated.

Extended: Good news for regional wildfires ahead of us; we will be dealing with higher humidity levels between Wednesday and Saturday! We also have chances for increasing storms into the middle of the week (this includes Fourth of July). This is a double-edged sword. Some storms with gusty outflow winds and lightning could fuel fires or create new hot spots, but where we see pockets of heavy rain – there could be some relief for fire crews. Temperatures remain above-average.
