Doubts emerge about Colorado bear attack story

FORT COLLINS, Colo. (AP) – Colorado officials say they doubt a reported bear attack on a campsite really happened.

Ty Petersburg with Colorado Parks and Wildlife says in a report obtained by the Coloradoan newspaper in Fort Collins it’s doubtful a bear was anywhere near the area June 5.

A couple with two children made an emergency call from the Red Feather Lakes area, saying they heard a bear near their campsite. The woman and children hid in a car while the man hid in a tent with two large dogs.

The man later reported an animal jumped on the tent for over an hour.

Investigators say nobody reported actually seeing a bear and they found no signs of a bear. The Coloradoan reports efforts to find and trap a bear were unsuccessful.
