One more hot day – 6/29/18
TODAY: You will likely be able to see and smell a lot of the smoke from the Spring Fire this morning due to winds out of the west, southwest. We will see sunshine and scattered clouds today with highs in the 90s and 100s in the lower elevations. Places in the mountains will warm into the 80s. Red Flag warnings are out from 12PM until 9PM for Fremont, Custer, Huerfano and western Las Animas counties today. This is where the fire danger will be most concerning. The San Luis Valley is also under Red Flags… winds gusting into the 30s today could be problematic for fire fighting. A few showers and storms are possible near the Kansas border after 2-3PM. Some could become strong or severe and produce hail and strong winds.
TONIGHT: Partly cloudy to mostly clear. Lows cool into the 50s and 60s.
EXTENDED: Right now Saturday looks likely our best chance for more widespread rain and thunderstorm activity. This is coming with much cooler highs in the 80s and low 90s. Mountains will warm into the 70s. Rain and storm chances will be spotty (at best) through Tuesday of next week. Highs slowly warm back up through the holiday.
