Fire danger today – 06/29/18
This evening: Later today, we have a small chance for isolated storms. The best likelihood for this will be in the southeastern plains. We can’t rule out one or two severe storms with large hail and damaging gusts. Elsewhere, we’re tracking a Wind Alert Level One with gusts possibly into the 30 mph zone. Due to this along with dry fuels and low relative humidity levels, we have Red Flag Warnings in effect for areas along and west of the I-25 corridor this afternoon and early evening. Avoid outdoor burning!
Tonight: Overnight lows drop to the 50s and 60s. It could be gusty overnight due to an incoming cold front. This same front could spark spotty showers mainly in the southeast plains.
Extended: Cooler weather is expected this upcoming weekend. This will be a welcome break from the scorching temperatures we saw this week! Due to the Spring fire today in Costilla County, there’s some smoke in the atmosphere because of southwesterly winds. Our cold front early Saturday will help to scour out some of that haziness. Tomorrow afternoon and evening, there could be a few strong-to-severe storms along and east of the Interstate. Stay weather aware! There could be large hail and gusts to roughly 60 mph. We appear to be relatively drier Sunday and Monday. Temperatures warm up again next week, but it won’t be *as* hot as it was this past week.
