Colorado Springs police negotiate hostage situation near UCCS

UPDATE: Colorado Springs police took a person into custody after a hostage situation that lasted several hours Thursday.

This was after police said at about 3:45 p.m. that a three-year-old had been released from the house near Maplewood Dr. Thursday. One other person was inside the house but was released earlier.

The suspect hasn’t been identified at this time, but he’s expected to be charged with at least kidnapping, according to police.

Colorado Springs police say they’re responding to a hostage situation Thursday in a neighborhood near the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs.

That’s according to a tweet from CSPD, which says it’s happening in the neighborhood at Mallow and Maplewood. (MAP) People are advised to avoid the area.

Police said a man is holding his three-year-old inside a home and has possibly threatened violence against him. Little other information is known at this time.
