Hail storm over Fountain caused at least $169M in damage

We’re getting a look at the price tag of the devastating hail storm that destroyed cars and shredded houses in south Colorado Springs and Fountain last week.

According to the Rocky Mountain Insurance Information Association, the storm on June 13 caused an estimated $169 million in damages so far. That’s from roughly 26,000 auto and homeowners insurance claims that have been filed so far.

Car insurance claims make up the bulk of the payout money, with $104 million going to automobiles and $65 million to property insurance claims.

The RMIIA ranks the storm as the 12th most expensive hailstorm in the state.
