Texas billboard telling liberals to leave gets removed

A billboard along a Texas highway telling liberals to keep driving until they leave the state has been removed after it provoked controversy following its installation Tuesday.

According to ABC affiliate KVII in Amarillo, the billboard was put up in Vega along Interstate 40, which connects the panhandle of Texas to New Mexico and Oklahoma.

The sign reads “Liberals, Please continue on I-40 until you have left our GREAT STATE OF TEXAS.”

But the client who purchased the billboard asked Burkett Media to remove the sign, KVII reported. Crews took the sign down in less than an hour around noon Wednesday. The owner wasn’t identified.

Vega is in OIdham County, which is west of Amarillo. In the 2016 general election, 89.9 percent of the vote in Oldham County went Republican.
