Partly sunny with scattered storms – 06/13/18
Today: What an active time of weather overnight! We’ve gotten reports of tennis ball and half dollar-sized hail in the southeast corner of Colorado Springs (Fountain, Peterson Air Force Base) and quarter sized hail near areas like Black Forest and in northeast Spring from overnight severe thunderstorms. Those showers have been coming to a close. Later this afternoon, we could see a round of a few strong-to-severe storms developing; however, I’m skeptical that they will be widespread. Rather, these storms will likely be quite spotty, leaving most dry. Highs will range in the 80s and 90s. We’ll have partly cloudy skies.
Tonight: There could be a few storms lingering overnight, but mostly these will take place in the eastern plains. These will be winding down before sunrise. Lows drop to the 50s under partly cloudy skies.
Extended: Afternoon highs stay in the 80s and 90s for the lower elevations through Friday. This upcoming weekend (and for Father’s Day!), temperatures drop to the 70s and 80s thanks to incoming moisture and cooler air. At this point, we’re expecting daily chances for afternoon storms. Saturday and Sunday, our storms will be fueled by the remnants of Hurricane Bud which is weakening as it currently trackings near the Baja California peninsula.
