Colorado Springs family left with ruined van after it was stolen twice
A family of eight in Colorado Springs were victims of thieves twice in the same week in May, and their van — the only vehicle they share — was found heavily damaged.
The Green family is feeling heartbroken and violated after finding their family van damaged and trashed. The doors wouldn’t open or close, the interior was sliced with a knife, and the seat belts were cut off. Now, they’re struggling to get around.
After dealing with numerous hardships, coming home to find her only family van destroyed left Crisandra Green perplexed
“Over the past four years since our son was diagnosed, we’ve had a premie, we’ve had two deaths in the family, I just got back from my father’s memorial service in California,” said Crisandra.
“The doors are stuck. We have these dents. They scratched the entire side of the van. The left passenger side doesn’t open. It’s dented and it off track. The driver’s door, it doesn’t open unless you really pull it open. It’s just so much damage that it starts and it’s really not drivable. It’s definitely not safe for my kids,” said Crisandra as she walked around, pointing out the damage.
Logan Green is a survivor of a brain tumor and was at a loss for words when he saw inside.
“I feel really mad,” said Logan Green.
“People who did this are way worse than what I thought they were,” said Westden Green.
“It’s just hard to see — hard to see what people do and the craziness in the world,” said Ashen Green.
Green said she called her insurance provider, but they’re not covering any of the damage nor will replace the van.
“Because we had liability [insurance], the [company] won’t cover our van being stolen,” said Crisandra.
The loss of their 2006 Odyssey Honda van is a hard blow to take.
“Emotionally, it has affected everybody but also the means to get around — to get to the grocery, get to doctor’s appointments; school hasn’t finished for all of our kids — it’s been really tough,” said Crisandra.
The Green family hopes police catch the thieves. The crooks left initials and someone’s name carved into the roof.
Colorado Springs police have no leads on suspects but did find a gun holster and a knife inside the van.
