Marty’s Sunday Morning Forecast – Still Hot & Dry – 5/27/18

Today: Partly cloudy, becoming breezy and hot again this afternoon with high temperatures in the 80s and 90s for the plains, mainly 70s for the mountains. Wind gusts this afternoon will range from 20 to 30 mph at times again, and combined with the heat and dry conditions will lead to conditions favorable for the spread of wildfires so the National Weather Service has issued a Red Flag Warning from noon until 9:00 PM for all areas along and west of I-25. Near the Kansas border isolated strong thunderstorms are possible late in the day, localized downpours, frequent lightning, large hail and damaging wind gusts would be the primary threats today.

Tonight: Decreasing wind this evening, then mostly clear tonight. The air will cool into the 40s and 50s for the mountains, mainly 50s and 60s again for the plains.

Extended: Memorial Day should be a little cooler for many of us, and there could be spotty, weak showers late in the day over the Pikes Peak Region, but most areas still look to be dry for most of the day. Expect high temperatures on Memorial Day to reach the 70s and 80s over the plains, although a few spots along and south of the Arkansas River may reach the 90s again. Fire weather may continue to be a concern over and near the higher terrain southwest of Pueblo on Memorial Day, but the cooler air should help to mitigate that concern for other areas. Wednesday will probably bring us our best chance for scattered thunderstorms over the next week, and there is some potential that a few strong storms will develop over parts of our coverage area. Thursday & Friday look hot, breezy and dry again with fire weather concerns returning to parts of the area.
