Man makes plea deal after killing best friend, best friend’s mom
A man accused of killing his best friend and his mom in Colorado Springs accepted a plea agreement in return for more information on the case.
Elijah Colon pleaded guilty to two counts of second-degree murder and was sentenced to 70 years in prison.
In an El Paso County courtroom on Thursday, Colon apologized for his actions, saying he contemplated suicide but instead committed murder.
Colon was arrested last May after being accused of fatally shooting Barbara and Christopher Pepper.
Prosecutors say Colon has yet to give a motive behind the murders and with this deal, they hope to get more answers.
“Part of the plea agreement with the defendant about the location of the firearm he used to commit these two crimes. The important part to us is that we’d like to find the weapon and get it off the streets. He discarded it somewhere in the city and we really want to find it,” said Michael Allen, Senior Deputy District Attorney.
Allen says Colon may be eligible for parole when he is 60 years old.
