Colorado Springs teacher punched by student

Colorado Springs police had to be called to Sierra High School Wednesday after a teacher was knocked to the ground and assaulted by an 18-year-old student who wanted to get a jacket from another student.

The student, Angelina Chavez, wasn’t assigned to the class but was trying to get the item from someone else while the teacher was administering a test.

The teacher blocked Chavez from entering the class, and that’s when she pushed the teacher down and started punching her repeatedly, police said.

Other students had to pull Chavez off the teacher, according to CSPD. The teacher’s forehead was injured, and police said Chavez may have fractured her knuckles because of the assault.

Chavez was cited for City Assault but was not booked into custody.

Harrison School District Two public information officer Christine O’Brien says Chavez has not returned to school. While she can’t comment on this specific case regarding what will happen to the student she says they take these matters very seriously.
