People raising concerns for new 8th Street and Cimarron bypass road; minor changes on the way
Several reports of accidents have been reported at the new bypass that connects Cimarron and 8th Street in Colorado Springs.
The new intersection was installed last July in an attempt to help ease the traffic in that area.
Several people who are familiar with the intersection say the main issue is the flashing yellow light for people turning left from 24 to the bypass road.
Sometimes, there is a protected green arrow that stops the traffic on 24.
However, when that flashing yellow light is going, it can be hard to gauge how quickly cars are coming, and in many cases, drivers do not yield to the oncoming traffic, so these crashes happen.
For the people familiar with the intersection, they say they have had concerns since it opened last July.
CDOT officials told KRDO on Tuesday that a minor tweak is being made to help this situation.
The flashing yellow yield arrow will no longer be available during peak rush hour times, like in the morning and evening.
Instead, it will be a green arrow, or it will be red.
CDOT and Colorado Springs officials say they will continue to monitor the intersection to determine if any additional changes will need to be made.
