Search for shooting suspect prompts heavy police presence in northeast Colorado Springs

Colorado Springs police are looking for a 17-year-old male they say was involved in a shooting in northeast Colorado Springs on Wednesday morning.

According to police, officers were dispatched to a location on Whileaway Circle for reports that a male was suffering from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

When officers arrived, they found a male dead. After the initial investigation and speaking with witnesses, police say the gunshot wound was not self- inflicted, and was instead caused by a 17-year-old male suspect.

At that point, officers received information that the suspect was in a home on Enchanted Circle, which was nearby.

Tactical officers with the Colorado Springs Police Department set up outside a house on Enchanted Circle Wednesday afternoon after a suspicious shooting a few blocks away.

Details are slim at this point, but CSPD said a juvenile was shot at Whileaway Circle, and a suspect was located at the home on Enchanted Circle.

Officers and K-9’s attempted to make contact with the suspect believed to be in the home, but were unsuccessful.

After several hours, police entered the home and determined the suspect was not there. One officer did sustain a minor injury during that operation, but police did not give any further details.

An arrest warrant was put out for that 17-year-old suspect, but police are not releasing his name at this time since he is a juvenile.

The suspect faces charges of manslaughter.

The victim in the incident has not been identified at this time.

Anyone with information about the whereabouts of the suspect or the incident is asked to contact Colorado Springs Police at 719-444-7000.
