Man found dead in Colorado Springs storage unit identified
The Colorado Springs Police Department on Thursday identified the man who was found shot to death inside a storage unit Sunday night on Astrozon Court.
Forty-year-old Richard Paul Martinez was the man killed, and police still haven’t said if anyone is in custody for his death. Police had previously said that “all individuals involved in the incident are accounted for and there is no continuing danger to the community.”
CSPD did say Thursday that the case is being investigated as a homicide and is still active.
Previous Story
Colorado Springs police were called to a bar Sunday evening for a report of a shooting but later found a man dead inside a storage unit about five miles away.
Very little information has been given by CSPD, and it’s still not clear who made the call and how they’re related to the incident.
According to the department, officers responded to the 2100 block of E. Platte Avenue for the shooting. At that point, “the call for service led officers to a storage facility in the 3400 block of Astrozon Court,” a statement says.
Officers found the dead man, and the Violent Crimes Section is investigating. Police haven’t specifically said if anyone’s in custody, only saying “all individuals involved in the incident are accounted for and there is no continuing danger to the community.”
Police haven’t said if this is a homicide investigation.
