Colorado Springs man charged for car crash that injured girl, 6

Colorado Springs police say the wheelman responsible for a crash last week that sent a young girl to the hospital was knowingly driving the vehicle with a faulty brake system and didn’t have the girl properly restrained.

The crash happened Friday morning at the intersection of Galley and Wooten roads. Police say 29-year-old Daniel Muniz was driving east on Galley when he ran a red light and crashed into a small construction trailer being pulled by another vehicle.

Muniz and a six-year-old girl were taken to the hospital after the crash. Officers at the scene originally said the female was seven years old.

Investigators found that Muniz was driving the vehicle with a faulty brake system. The girl was also sitting unrestrained in the front seat. She’s said to still be recovering at a local hospital.

Muniz was arrested for felony child abuse and vehicular assault.
