Partly sunny and warm today – 05/09/18

Today: It will be another dry and warm day across southern Colorado! Highs will be reaching the 80s and 90s in the lower elevations with the 70s for the local mountains. We’ll deal with partly sunny skies – a few more clouds compared to yesterday. Winds will be slightly breezy, and while fire danger will be elevated somewhat, it won’t be high enough for Red Flag Warnings. That changes tomorrow. Into Teller County, we can’t rule out a few stray storms, but most of us stay dry. For the far eastern plains, there could be one or two severe storms. The biggest threat within those thunderstorms would be that for damaging gusts. We’ll track it!

Tonight: Any storms wind down. Lows tumble to the 40s and 50s under mostly clear skies. It will be mild again overnight!

Extended: Tomorrow we’ll battle very high fire danger. We have Red Flag Warnings in effect tomorrow between 11 a.m. and 9 p.m. Gusts could reach 30 mph or higher. Avoid outdoor burning Thursday! Unfortunately, fire danger continues at least through Friday and possibly through the weekend in areas where we don’t see showers. This upcoming weekend, we have a big update; we’ve increased temperatures to the 70s and 80s. It won’t be as cool for Mother’s Day as we anticipated earlier this work week! Nor will we be battle widespread, strong storms. Only isolated storms are possible both days, primarily in the afternoon. Daily chances for storms continues into next work week.
