Teachers strike against D-60; protesters show up in support

Hundreds turned out to protest in support of the District 60 teacher strike Monday morning in Pueblo. Protesters gathered at all four high schools in Pueblo and plan to protest around the administration building in the afternoon.

Around 1,000 people are expected to turnout Monday in support of the D-60 teachers. KRDO’s Krystal Story was at East High School and said about 250-300 people showed up to protest.

KRDO’S Stephanie Sierra was at Central High School, where she said 150 people were out picketing in the early hours.

Thirty-five schools across Pueblo were closed Monday. Teachers left the classroom to demand more money. See their demands HERE.

District 60 has been working to end the strike as quickly as possible. The District offered a new deal, which was quickly rejected.

The Communication Director for Pueblo Schools, Dalton Sprouse, said Friday’s offer still stands and he doesn’t expect any counter offers Monday.
