Missing boater found dead in Lake Pueblo
The body of a 70-year-old man whose boat sank Monday afternoon in Lake Pueblo was found Wednesday afternoon 109 feet below the water’s surface.
Witnesses said they saw a small aluminum boat near the north picnic area of the lake, east of North Shore Marina, and then heard a loud noise before seeing the man in the water, according to a news release. They called 911 and the Colorado Parks and Wildlife Department began searching the area.
Dive teams were brought in, and on Tuesday, a high-powered sonar device was brought from Littleton to search the deeper waters. The search resumed Wednesday, and the boat was spotted on sonar. The body was recovered nearby.
The man’s identity hasn’t been released yet.
“We offer our condolences to the family of this person,” said Monique Mullis, manager of Lake Pueblo State Park. “And I appreciate the work of our rescue team, the Pueblo County Sheriff’s volunteer divers and the Colorado Springs Fire Department dive team who spent hours at the scene during this operation.”
