Multiple districts cancel classes Friday due to planned teacher rally

Falcon District 49, District 38, Fountain-Fort Carson District 8, District 2, District 11, District 12, and District 14 are canceling classes Friday due to the number of expected absences as teachers and staffers head to Denver for a rally at the State Capitol.

District 49 sent an email Wednesday with the announcement saying it can’t ensure safe operations and a “high-quality learning experience” because of the number of planned absences. The other cancellations were announced throughout Wednesday afternoon.

District 60 in Pueblo said Centennial High School, Heaton Middle School, Sunset Park Elementary, Belmont Elementary, Highland Park Elementary, Irving Elementary, Goodnight Elementary, Roncalli STEM Academy, Heroes K-8 Academy, Corwin International Magnet School and the Fountain International School will be closed Friday.

The announcements follow similar ones by other districts canceling classes Friday due to the rally. That includes Academy District 20.

Teachers and education professionals across the state are planning the rally at the capitol over education funding in the state.
