Deputies catch hit-and-run suspect considered to be armed and dangerous

The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office arrested a hit-and-run suspect they say could have been armed and dangerous Thursday morning.

A deputy noticed the male suspect’s erratic driving eastbound on Platte and Academy. The suspect crashed his vehicle in front of the hospital and then crashed it again at Custer Avenue and High Street. He then ran from the scene, jumping through neighborhood fences.

Colorado Springs Police surrounded the perimeter with K9s. Deputies found the suspect at the Burger King at Platte and Union.

So far deputies have found drug paraphernalia and a hand gun inside the suspect’s vehicle.

Columbia Elementary School went on lockdown during the incident due to police activity in the area. Students and staff remained safe.
