Former Colorado DA investigator guilty of child sex crime

A former El Paso County deputy who was also an investigator with the 4th Judicial District Attorney’s office pleaded guilty to a child sex crime Tuesday.

Donald Fair, 44, admitted to the sexual contact and pleaded guilty to sexual assault of a child by one in a position of trust. He will be sentenced on July 24.

Police began investigating last August when the sexual contact was reported. The victim was reportedly under the age of 15. Three days later, Fair was identified as a suspect and arrested.

Fair was employed as a sheriff’s deputy with the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office from June 2005 to July 2010, and from October 2013 to July 21, 2017.

From July 24, 2017, to August 31, 2017, Fair was an investigator with the 4th Judicial District Attorney’s Office.

The DA’s and sheriff’s offices both declined interviews while the case was in litigation. We’ve reached out to their offices for comment Tuesday.
