Fallen Sheriff Deputy’s family surprised with yard makeover

The widow and family of fallen El Paso County sheriff’s deputy Micah Flick are getting a new memorial, and it happens to be their yard.

It’s all thanks to generous donations from the Colorado Springs community.

On a cloudy April morning, hundreds of landscapers, high school students and friends came together for a family still in pain, by completely remodeling a space that is already so special.

Micah Flick’s wife and kids still live in the home where he grew up playing football and soccer in.

His wife Rachel, saying it will remain a place for them to remember him by.

“We will absolutely be thinking of Micah in that time and continuing his legacy of play and relaxation and family connection,” she said.

Jonathan Campbell became friends with Micah when they were just 8-years-old.

“This one hits a little closer to home,” he said.

Now Campbell works for Colorado Stoneworks Landscaping, one of the many companies donating their labor.

“Being able to give his children this space to do the same thing is what’s really special to me at this point,” Campbell said.

But professionals aren’t the only ones helping out.

Austin Fix attends Falcon High School and says as soon as he heard about Friday’s project he knew it was one he’d have to participate in.

“It means quite a bit because I know it would mean a lot to him to do his yard and it means a lot to his family,” Fix said.

Flick’s wife saying it means more to her than she can explain.

She’s now looking forward to spending the summer with her two kids, remembering her husband and their dad.
