Pueblo D60 teachers vote to go on strike

District 60 teachers in Pueblo voted to go on strike Friday. The voting concluded at 10 a.m. with 471 teachers in favor of the strike and 24 against the strike.

The State now has to decide if it wants to intervene. The teachers intend to strike in May.

The district released a statement on the strike stating how sad the situation is.

“We do not feel that it is in the best interests of our staff, community and most importantly, our students,” the statement read.

The strike comes after the district rejected a cost-of-living and health insurance adjustments, according to our partners at The Pueblo Chieftain.

The district said it denied the raise to stay financially stable. So far this year, the district has announced a switch to a four-day workweek in an effort to save money, including a “corresponding and appropriate reduction in the number of teachers and other staff to meet budgetary constraints.”

The district said it would do its best to minimize the loss of learning and will try to work with the teachers to resolve the issues.
