Officials urge people to register for the Emergency Notification System

In the wake of the 117 Fire that burned a total of 42,795 acres and destroyed 23 homes, El Paso and Teller County Officials want the public to beware for the when the next emergency situation occurs.

The Emergency Notification System is a tool used by public safety official that notifies residents in El Paso and Teller County of emergencies that pose a threat to their safety or property.

Go to www.elpasoteller911.org to register for the free alerts via phone call, text message, or email. If you do not have internet access you can call 719-785-1971 to register.

You receive alerts based on the address you register. You can choose to receive alerts for up to five locations like work, school or home.

You can also download the Everbridge app for free through Google Play or the App Store. The app will send you alerts through your phone. If you travel into an active “incident zone” you will receive a push alert notification.

The Emergency Notification System is used an average of 65 times per year. That number includes outbound and and “all clear” messages. The system is separate from the systems that send Amber Alerts and Severe Weather Alerts.

Officials say that in an emergency you should use as many forms of communication as possible to stay informed. Do not put your safety at risk by waiting for a notification to be told what to do.
