D11 cancels classes due to anticipated teacher shortage

All D11 campuses will be closed Friday, April 27 due an expected shortage of teachers and substitutes at all grade levels including preschools.

The shortage is due to a statewide rally by educators pushing for better benefits and overall funding for public education.

Members of the Colorado Springs Education Association have said they will join the rally.

In a statement late Friday evening, the district said “We do not have enough substitute teachers or administrators to cover the projected number of teacher absences.”

The district apologized for the inconvenience, but said it hoped the advance notice would allow families enough time to find alternate accommodations for students.

Extracurricular activities will take place as normal.

Normal school operations are expected to resume on Monday, April 30.
