Shelter available for animals evacuated during Hanover fire

A shelter is now open in El Paso County at the Norris Penrose Event Center in Colorado Springs.

They have 180 stalls, which they say is enough room for 110 horses or farm animals. General Manager Kyle Parker says he expects the space to fill in quickly.

He says animal owners will need to bring some of their own supplies.

The barns are on the southeast corner of the property. Parker says evacuees are welcome to use the stalls. He did warn the stalls don’t come equipped with hay or buckets.

Lea Flores said that Southern Valli Ranch in Fountain also has 10 acres with a barn and lean-to open to large animals that need shelter. That’s at 8220 Valli Farm Road in Fountain.

Parker says the shelter is available for anyone affected by the wildfire.
