Rocky Ford fire truck flips after being cut off; 2 injured

A Rocky Ford Rural Fire District brush truck made a sharp turn to avoid colliding with an SUV and ended up rolling over multiple times Tuesday afternoon.

According to the Colorado State Patrol, the fire truck was going north on Highway 71 near Otero County Road CC when a red SUV turned right in front of it shortly after 2 p.m.

The driver of the fire truck swerved to avoid the crash, but the truck went off the left side of the road and rolled two-and-a-half times before resting on its roof.

Two people inside the fire truck were taken to a hospital in La Junta, but the extent of their injuries isn’t known. They were wearing their seat belts.

CSP is working to identify the SUV involved. Witnesses described it as a red, crossover-style SUV, according to CSP.
