Colorado Springs Airport closed for the day due to fire

The three-alarm fire sounded Monday night. According to the CSFD’s after-hours Public Information page, flames were knocked down on the roof. It was fueled by propane cylinders, but the airport’s sprinkler system kept it contained.

All of the airport’s carriers will be in operation beginning Wednesday, but flights will be reduced. Travelers are advised to check the status of their flights before attempting to depart.

The United Airlines section of the airport received the most damage and will be temporarily moved.

All inbound and outbound flights were canceled Tuesday and the airport said it will announce at 3 p.m. on Tuesday the status of Wednesday’s flights.

Colorado Springs Airport Spokesperson, Aidan Ryan, said over 4,000 passengers travel through the airport a day.

If your plans are impacted by the closure, you will need to contact the airline to reschedule your flight. The numbers are:

United: 877-624-3653

Frontier: 801-401-9006

Delta: 800-221-1212

American: 800-446-7834

The building was evacuated safely. No injuries have been reported at this time. We don’t know the cause of this fire. Crews have been cleared to enter the airport to begin assessing the damage to the building.

Airport staff is asked to report to the field shop on Resnick Dr. Tuesday.

This is a developing story. We’ll be sure to pass along more information as we receive it.
