WEATHER ALERT: Multiple Colorado highways closed

The Colorado Department of Transportation says Highway 24 is closed between Calhan and Limon because of high winds blowing snow and causing poor visibility.

The Calhan RJ1 school district, the Frontier Charter Academy in Calhan, Miami-Yoder School District, Edison 54JT, and Big Sandy School District are also releasing students early due to the weather conditions.

CDOT said Highway 287 was also closed from Eads to Limon and that Highway 61 was closed from Sterling to Otis due to blizzard conditions.

A high wind restriction was set for Interstate 76 from Sterling to Nebraska, CDOT said. Empty, light, and high-profile vehicles are restricted from travel.

Highway 6; Highway 63 from I-76 to Anton Road; and Highway 59 from Haxtun to Highway 36 were closed, CDOT said. Highway 385 was closed from Julesburg to Cheyenne Wells.

CDOT added that more closures are expected throughout the day.

This is a developing story, check back for updates.
