Fort Morgan school to begin drug testing for extracurriculars

Administrators at a northern Colorado high school are planning to start drug testing athletes and students involved in extracurricular activities during the next school year.

KUSA-TV reports Fort Morgan High School in the fall will implement a drug testing program that will randomly test 20 students each week.

The tests will be issued by Colorado Mobile Drug Testing. The company says the results of students who test positive for drugs will be sent to a lab for additional analysis.

If the testing returns positive results, the student will be suspended and will be required to undergo drug counseling.

Parents are required to consent to the testing for their children to participate in extracurricular activities.

The school will fund the testing by charging an additional $5 to the student activity fee.
