Mental evaluation ordered for man who confessed to killing siblings

The man in custody for killing his two younger siblings in Colorado Springs will receive a 60-day mental evaluation from El Paso County.

On Monday, a judge ordered a competency review for Malik Murphy. For the review will involve possibly multiple psychologists interviewing Murphy to determine his mental state. The review is said to be completed by June 8th.

When our reporter asked if the family had a statement to give, his mother said they have nothing to say now but that may change after the evaluation is completed.

Murphy was arrested and charged in October with stabbing and killing his two siblings. His parents say their son had severe mental health problems and were getting him help before the murders.

Murphy told the investigators he couldn’t stop thinking about killing people and admitted to killing his younger brother and sister. He said he had been diagnosed with depression and anti-social disorder and had visited multiple psychiatric hospitals.
