Police: Former Denver teacher smoked marijuana with students

A former teacher at East High School in Denver is accused of inviting students to her house last August and smoking marijuana with them.

Denver police arrested 29-year-old Rachel Farley this week after a student reported the incident in late February.

According to an arrest affidavit, a student told administrators Farley had invited several students to her home on Glencoe Street on August 18 to help “decorate clothing for Freshman Day.” The student said they left briefly and came back to find Farley smoking marijuana with the other students.

In March, police spoke to nine students who were said to be at Farley’s house and they all admitted to smoking marijuana with Farley. The students told police in separate interviews that Farley provided the marijuana and “introduced it to the group to smoke,” according to the affidavit.

Police said the students who smoked marijuana were all 17 at the time.

Farley had resigned from the school on August 31 to become a dance instructor, just about two weeks after the alleged incident occurred. “There was nothing notable about her resignation — she simply resigned,” Denver Public Schools said in a statement, according to our partners at Denver7.

When the allegations surfaced, DPS banned Farley from volunteering for or working with the school.

Farley was charged with multiple counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor and marijuana distribution to a minor.
