Standoff with armed Fountain man ends peacefully

Fountain police and El Paso County deputies were involved in an standoff with an armed man inside a tavern in Fountain late Wednesday evening.

Police were called around 8:30 about a man threatening to shoot both civilians and police.

By the time authorities arrived at Pat’s Tavern, other patrons had cleared out, leaving the man inside alone.

They have the business on Royalty Place surrounded, with roads closed in the area and at least one business and parking lot across the street evacuated.

A witness who was evacuated told KRDO the man was unfamiliar to those who frequent the tavern.

She also said that she saw him carrying a semi-automatic pistol and his threats sounded serious.

Just before 10pm, authorities were able to convince him to come outside and surrender.

It’s unclear what charges he will face.
